New ASC Regulations

In June, we began the process of re-engineering the ASC Emergency Management Plans already in place at each of the PPH centers in order to comply with the new CMS ASC Emergency Management Program. ASCs affected by this rule must comply and implement all regulations one year after the effective date, on November 15, 2017. The purpose of this regulation is to establish national emergency preparedness requirements to ensure adequate planning for both natural and man-made disasters, and coordination with federal, state, tribal, regional and local emergency preparedness systems. ASCs must be in compliance with Emergency Preparedness regulations to participate in the Medicare or Medicaid program.

Advantages of ASC vs Hospital

Reimbursement News

  • The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released its 2018 final payment rule for ASCs and hospital outpatient departments (HOPDs).
  • On average, ASC payment rates will increase by 1.2 percent in 2018. This increase is based on a projected rate of inflation of 1.7 percent minus a 0.5 percentage point productivity adjustment required by the Affordable Care Act.
