Dr. Spotlight: Dr. John Shank of Surgical Center of the Rockies

Dr. John Shank specializes in foot and ankle conditions and reconstructive procedures, arthroscopic and open fusion, ankle replacement, ankle arthroscopy, fracture care, ankle cartilage restoration procedures, bunion removal, and sports medicine.

Dr. Shank attended Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio where he graduated summa cum laude. He received his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Colorado. He then completed a foot and ankle reconstruction fellowship at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Washington followed by a sports medicine fellowship at the Steadman Hawkins Clinic of the Carolinas.

Active in research and education of orthopedic and sports medicine, Dr. Shank has volunteered at the University of Colorado Department of Orthopaedic Surgery to teach residents. He served as a research assistant in analyzing the role of a knee brace on gait biomechanics and has been published in many orthopedic publications, including the Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma.

Dr. Shank is an orthopedic consultant for the Olympic Training Center. He is also a foot and ankle consultant for the Denver Broncos and Colorado Rockies. He enjoys biking, fishing, golfing, cooking, and snow skiing in his spare time.
