Dr. Karl Larsen is an orthopedic surgeon at Surgical Center of the Rockies. Dr. Larsen received his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences School of Medicine in Bethesda, Maryland. After, he completed his residency at Wilford Hall Medical Center at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He later completed a hand and microvascular surgery fellowship at the Indiana Hand Center. Dr. Larsen served in the US Air Force Academy for over 10 years and was stationed in Colorado for 6 of those years. He performed hand surgery and held prestigious positions including Flight Commander for Inpatient and Emergency Services, Deputy Squadron Commander for Medical Operations, Deputy Chief of Medical Staff, and Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Larsen has received many awards throughout his military career. He was named the United States Air Force Academy Clinical Surgeon of the Year in 2005. He has also received the Aerial Achievement Medal, Outstanding unit Award and NATO Medal. Dr. Larsen is board certified and treats injuries of the hand and upper extremities. He primarily treats patients with athletic injury and overuse conditions of the wrist, disorders of the elbow, shoulder fractures and work related injuries. He performs upper extremity trauma reconstruction, hand surgery and total shoulder replacements. Since 1994, Dr. Larsen has been an Orthopedic Consultant for the United States Olympic Training Center. He is currently on the medical staff for the USA National Women’s Senior Basketball Team, USA Wrestling and Colorado Springs Sky Sox Triple A Baseball Club. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand. Dr. Larsen is a member of the Society of Military Orthopaedic Surgeons and Indianapolis Hand Society. Dr. Larsen has been married for 24 years to his wife, Margaret. He has 2 children, Connor and Jacob. He has a rescue dog named Flora. Dr. Larsen’s hobbies include hunting and fishing. Nurse Manager, Laura Caraway, says “Dr. Larsen is quiet but has a great sense of humor.
