Practice Partners would like to spotlight Dr. Derek Purcell for all the work he does at Surgical Center of the Rockies. Dr. Purcell is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. His specialties are sports medicine and shoulder surgery. He is skilled in advanced arthroscopic techniques, cartilage restoration and total shoulder replacement surgery.
Dr. Purcell obtained his medical degree at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. He obtained additional training by completing his orthopeadic surgery residency and sports medicine and shoulder surgery fellowship at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University in St. Louis.
He is currently the team physician for Colorado College and Palmer Ridge High School. He has previously served as assistant team physician for professional athletic teams during his fellowship in St. Louis. These teams include the Blues (NHL), Rams (NFL) and the Cardinals (MLB).
Dr. Purcell is very dedicated to his work and enjoys research. He has been published in many journals and given presentations relating to his specialties.
In his free time, Dr. Purcell enjoys spending time with his family. Dr. Purcell is happily married and has 2 children.
